If I take a photography class will they teach about both digital and film?

I really want to get into photography and I was wondering if there are still places that teach how to use film and digital photography. And what’s they differences between the two?

Ask before you do the course.
The only real difference is in the recording medium.

Judging from the questions here about all manual film cameras I’d say they do still teach film.

Biggest difference in my opinion is that with film you don’t have instant feedback and it requires discipline to figure out the settings you used (use a notebook).

There may be a few. However, due to lack of time, most courses will focus on one or the other. A digital course might have a session or two devoted to a historical presentation about film and the classical great photographers. On the other hand a film course is more likely to be taught by an old curmudgeon who thinks that digital cameras are a passing fad used by shallow picture-takers who are not truly dedicated to the art and craft of photography. He or she will dismiss digital cameras out of hand, along with the people who use them. There’s a bit of ill-will between the two camps and you’re unlikely to get a perfectly objective presentation about "the enemy". This is more the case with film aficionados as their way of life is more threatened by the new technology.

The only difference between the two is that digital is based on an electronic sensor that produces image files that can be viewed immediately. Film uses a light-sensitive chemical coating on plastic film that must be developed with chemicals. Making prints from the developed film or scanning it to a file are additional steps. The operation of the camera is identical in both cases.

i’ll tell you now. before you start learning. starting off on film will boost your abilities and as a matter of fact you will pick digital easier too. because both work in a similar way.

    hope it helps.
